Advanced Features
WebTrain is a programming language
for the WWW. It can therefore perform pretty much any task you may
want to put it to. We are limited to what is offered because
those are the only applications we have completed so far within the
scope of projects and our development team.
The applications that will be completed in the
future will in the main be done by people outside of our development
team.
Example 1. With Treasury training,
it is necessary that the learner be presented with up to date foreign
exchange rates and interest rates. What we are able to do is plug
the Reuters channel into our database so that the current rates
are constantly updated. Because we can embed formulae and mathematical
variables into the WebTrain environment, the content presented
to the learner is accurate and up to date.
Example 2. Development of online OH&S, Environmental Management and Quality Management auditing systems has been possible because WebTrain is a programming language for the WWW. To date, systems have been developed for VACC and Mel Crook & Associates.
Example 3. Primary School Maths. The WWW can be programmed to assess a users maths level and then present only what that users needs. NuMaths have created a system which is hosted on a server in the USA that delivers Primary School Maths online to the world.
Example 4. Performance Management online. A system called Courage under Hire was developed using the WebTrain language and sold and tested by the Victorian Principals Association. A more advanced online Performance Management system is currently under development using the latest version of the WebTrain software.
Example 5. Document Control online. An online system has been developed using the WebTrain language to deliver and manage document delivery within organisations. Rather than invest in massive hardware and Intranet infrastructure, an online system can be used with as much security and the only requirement by the organisation is Internet access.
Example 6. Most of the VET systems around Australia have been "asked" to use a generic LMS (usually overseas University designed software) that is paid for by the State using hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayers money. The problem is that each subject area within the VET sector requires a unique LMS. WebTrain has been building these unique LMS systems by listening very carefully to the people (students, teachers, and training organisations) who use the systems. The Metals Engineering area is a classic example. In almost every state in Australia, the Metals area is "asked" to use University based LMS systems. These systems expect the students who use them to use techniques like collaborative learning not because it is the best method but because that is what is used in those LMS systems. Different people "rise" to different callings because they have different needs and they learn differently. Catering for that "difference" is the very least they should expect. WebTrain can and does cater for those differences.
