What makes E-Learning work?

In 1970, we could expect to be trained once in our lives and be happy with that. Then along came technology and ruined every chance of us having a quiet life with very little change. In 2005, because of technology, we can expect to be trained 5 times (at least) in our working lifetimes. The problem is that Australia is still trying to do this with approximately the same size training workforce and using the same techniques (and the same people who don't understand what it is required to make the necessary changes). It is not going to happen. We must use E-Learning technology (and Aussie owned and proven) to address the problems technology caused. The lack of change has nothing to do with a difficulty in the use of technology. It is due to an unwillingness to change for a lot of reasons.

What has happened is that the entrenched training regime is so committed to infrastructure and the old ways, that very little change has really occured to "fix" the problem. They have changed their names and produced many reports with big words and flowery ideas and issues etc. to show they have made an attempt at it but nothing has really happened. One of the worst mistakes was trying to use University based E-Learning products within the VET sector. Another was trying to use these University designed products as a single solution to every VET sector. Each sector requires their own solution.

The difference between success and failure in E-Learning is the ability of the tutor, not "bells and whistles" or the ability to "engage the learner". That is it in a nutshell. If you shirk this issue, you will eventually fail. The reports and tools available to a tutor are vital to success in E-Learning.

WebTrain can generate pretty much any report. Some examples are:

AQTF is probably one of the most determining effects on an RTO and so it should be. Using WebTrain based solutions, audits can be covered easily. AQTF is a fantastic innovation in ensuring that only quality RTO's are operating. It should be introduced into TAFE's as well instead of making them self auditing. WebTrain prides itself in making sure that we are abreast of what AQTF requires and we then provide "MORE" than what is required. Because a log is kept of every user interaction, WebTrain can generate pretty much any report. Some examples are:

1. What percentage of the course has the learner completed?
2. What is their current result?
3. Are they currently online (within reason or within limits set by you)?
4. How many times have they been on a particular page and when?
5. What answer did they give to a particular question and when?
6. When did they last login?
7. Give a list of their last 4 logins.
8. Give me a printout of all of my students demographic information.
9. How long have my Developers taken to create my online resources?
10. A full report of every question asked, every answer given, comments, times and dates etc. for assignments.
11. How long (on the average) have my Tutors taken to respond to my students?

This is by no means a comprehensive list. It can be exactly set up to cater for any auditing process your online system requires.
